Looking left, looking right

The longer I am staying in Tokyo the more I get the feeling that people are positioning themselves so perfectly on purpose… A young, fashionable Japanese woman, using her Keitai (cell phone), leaning against a wall, right between the end of the building and the show-window of – I think it was – Louis Vuitton. The model in the shop looks dreamily outside the frame, while the real person may have her own dreams, but with a finer sense of reality to it…

Praying Yakuza

23 10 2008

The moment they closed the gates of Sensoji I squeezed myself into it with a tall guy, wearing white sneakers and working clothes. His whole appearance somehow reminded me of Bruce Lee. He prayed and went outside, where I asked him about his handsome clothes. In the beginning of the conversation he wanted me to believe that he is a buddhist monk, but it came out quickly – after he showed me his Sakura-tattoo – that he was a Yakuza (Japanese mafia) going out for drinks after visiting the temple.
